Afternoon Session: Leasing: An Historical Perspective (4 hrs. A&A)
Over the years, critics have argued that the standards for leases have failed to meet the needs of users of financial statements, because they did not always provide a faithful representation of leasing transactions. Hence, in recently, the IASB and FASB updated the Standards, Principles and Rules for accounting for leases. Many companies have now implemented the new Standards. This workshop will offers insights into the concepts of leases, and how they have been historically accounted for in the financial statements over time. It will focus on the old versus the new Standards and rules, and compare leasing transactions using both the old and new Standards. I will also focus on some of the nuanced approaches, specifically related to the concepts and implications of embedded leases.
Presenter: Dr. Sandria Stephenson, PhD., CPA
